One of the largest independent engineering consultancies in the world has opted to expand its operations to the UK with the appointment of Lee Davies. He joins the firm following the launch of its new Birmingham office, in order to help capitalise on the growing workload the firm is building across the Midlands.

According to a recent study by Ibis World, the UK’s consultant engineering market is worth in the region of £53.2 billion. Having expanded healthily in recent years, further growth is expected to be buoyed by various types of infrastructure construction activity, such as electricity and telecommunications infrastructure construction, which have gained momentum and enhanced demand over the past five years. Looking to tap into this growing market, Singapore-headquartered Meinhardt expanded into the UK earlier in 2019, with the launch of its new Birmingham office.

The firm employs over 4,500 technical staff from its 47 global locations, and has been involved in UK and international projects in many of the world’s major cities for more than 60 years. Most recently the company has been appointed by the Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital partnership to provide civil and structural design consultancy services at the 14-storey Timber Yard residential development in Birmingham’s Southside development district.

Meinhardt appoints building services specialist Lee Davies

As Meinhardt looks to support its existing civil and structures capability in its burgeoning Birmingham outlet, it has appointed an additional Regional Director to its ranks in the shape of Lee Davies. The building services specialist arrives at the Midlands office with responsibility for project delivery and the operational growth of the firm’s building services consultancy, alongside fellow Regional Director, Jason Fox. The pair will now spearhead the multidisciplinary consultancy’s investment into new regions, as it looks to capitalise on a growing workload on behalf of new and existing clients across the Midlands.

Commenting on his new challenge, Davies said, “The broad range of engineering design services delivered by Meinhardt in the UK and internationally, demonstrates technical expertise that is aligned to the needs of the developing Midlands market. With this capability and the overwhelming commitment and support of the Meinhardt team, Jason and I are privileged to be leading such an exciting opportunity to expand the regional business.”

Davies brings more than two decades of industry experience to the role, having acted as lead building services consultant on a wealth of high-profile projects within the commercial, residential and education sectors on behalf of some of the UK’s largest developers. Prior to joining Meinhardt, Davies was a Director at a Midlands-based building services consultancy Couch Perry & Wilkes, where he spent 15 years, and specialised in innovative design solutions and construction techniques.

Mark Bryan, a Building Services Director at Meinhardt, remarked, “The addition of a new Regional Director further demonstrates Meinhardt’s commitment to investing in and expanding a team that will play a significant role in shaping the future of the Midlands, through world-class developments. Lee’s commitment to sustainable building services design and experience of the local marketplace, means that he is ideally placed to work alongside Jason in facilitating the growth of our Birmingham-based business.”
