Justin Balcombe joins Oliver Wyman's London office from BCG

Having previously worked for the Marsh & McLennan Companies group for more than two decades, Justin Balcombe has returned to the fold, taking a job with Oliver Wyman’s London office. Formerly a Partner at Boston Consulting Group and KPMG, Balcombe has been appointed to the role of Partner in the consultancy’s financial services practice.

Oliver Wyman has been undergoing a raft of changes in recent months, as the firm looks to prepare for heightened demand both globally, and in its London office. Late in 2018, this saw 28 Partner appointments across its international network, including eight in the UK capital.

Now, as the firm looks to further strengthen its financial services practice in the global financial hub, the Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC)-owned firm has installed Justin Balcombe as a Partner and EMEA Digital Transformational Insurance Leader in its London office. An expert in strategy, performance improvement, business transformation, and operating model change, Balcombe has spent over 30 years in senior leadership roles across the insurance industry, operating in a number of international markets.

Balcombe commenced his insurance career as a member of the MMC group, working as an Energy Broker for Marsh in what was then the firm’s Sedgwick centre, based in Aldgate, London. Since then, he has led a number of major initiatives across the market – including building out the Lloyds LAB for Lloyds of London – and spent a combined eight years with members of the professional services world’s Big Four. He was an Insurance Market Segment Leader for EY for four years, before becoming a Partner and UK Head of General Insurance with KPMG.

Balcombe's most recent role was a Partner and Managing Director at strategy firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he focused on UK and European insurance client activity. In his spare time, Balcombe supports a number of children's charities – something he will continue to pursue after his return to the MMC group.
