Global consultancy Oliver Wyman has announced the appointment of its new Head of UK and Ireland. David Gillespie, a Partner currently enjoying his second spell at the firm, will now lead Oliver Wyman’s UK businesses while continuing to head up its established UK banking and organisational effectiveness practices.

With the banking space rapidly transforming due to pressure from agile market disruptors, the demand for consulting services in the sector is ranging ever higher. Increasingly, executive bankers are looking to digitalise their services and avoid losing market share to newcomers leveraging technology to outflank long-time sector incumbents. As a result of the changing expectations of clients in the sector, Oliver Wyman appointed a new head of its UK banking practice in the form of London-based Partner David Gillespie.

Gillespie was installed in the role to oversee all UK client relationships at the firm’s largest practice area in the UK, just two years after he rejoined Oliver Wyman. Before his second stint with the consulting firm, Gillespie had been the Director of Distribution of the European wing of National Australia Bank between 2014 and 2016. This followed a 12-year stint with the Royal Bank of Scotland, where he held a number of different roles, including CEO, RBS England & Wales, NatWest Scotland, and Chief Operating Officer of UK Retail. Gillespie is a graduate of Oxford University and has completed the Harvard Advanced Management Programme.

Following his promotion in 2018, David Gillespie has now been appointed as the Head of UK and Ireland at the global management consultancy. In his new role, reporting to Davide Taliente, Head of EMEA, Gillespie will lead the firm’s UK businesses while continuing to head up its established UK banking and organisational effectiveness practices.

Commenting on his new challenge, Gillespie said, “Oliver Wyman is experiencing significant growth in the UK. As the new Head of UK and Ireland, I’m looking forward to working with an incredibly talented group of people to help our clients with the next stage of their journeys. I believe Oliver Wyman is at the forefront of the new wave of strategy consulting that focuses much more on co-creating solutions with clients. In the digital age, it’s our deep industry knowledge, collaborative style, and hands-on transformation capabilities that will enable us to help clients achieve major breakthroughs.”

Davide Taliente added, “Since returning to Oliver Wyman two years ago, David has established himself as a leader of transformation work for major organisations and on organisational agility more broadly. As the UK and Ireland continue to face a highly challenging environment across all sectors, I have no doubt that David will further grow the business by mobilising our Partner team to deliver tangible and differentiating support for clients.”
