Big Four firm EY has announced it has appointed Praveen Shankar to lead its UK and Ireland (UK&I) Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice. The former Accenture professional has been at the firm for over four years, and will take up the position from EY’s London office.

The technology, media, and telecom (TMT) sector includes a wide range of companies, but they are interrelated in that they heavily depend on research & development (R&D), the value of patents and other intellectual property protections, and preferring rapid company growth. Thanks to digital disruption, the sector is undergoing a rapid seismic shift, with many firms having to weigh up major organisational change to avoid the loss of market share.

In preparation for heightened demand for consulting services regarding such transformations, EY is working to bolster its UK&I TMT team. The TMT wing of the Big Four firm advises some of the world’s largest and most innovative organisations in the sector, working to help them transform and accelerate their growth ambitions, redefine their business models and reassess value propositions.

EY UK&I appoints Praveen Shankar as new TMT leader

Praveen Shankar, who joined EY four years ago, has been appointed Partner for TMT, in order to steer the practice through the coming period of changing expectations. Shankar has more than 20 years’ experience working with businesses with a deep focus on the Telecoms sector. Prior to this latest promotion, he led EY’s UK&I Advisory Telecoms and Supply Chain teams. Before his time with the firm, Shankar was a Senior Manager in Management Consulting and TMT with Accenture, at the end of a five year term with the consultancy. Before this, he spent time as a consultant with PRTM Management Consultants, and Wipro, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Cambridge University.

Greg Cudahy, EY’s Global TMT leader, said of the appointment, “Praveen’s extensive knowledge and experience of the TMT sector is a valuable asset for our clients as they navigate unprecedented levels of disruption. I’m happy to see him take the helm of the sector in our UK business and I look forward to working with him.”

Praveen Shankar himself added, “I am very proud to be taking on this role to lead a fantastic team of dedicated and talented individuals. We will continue to help clients shape their future and make the best of the numerous exciting growth opportunities in a rapidly evolving environment.”
