Mike Smith boosts Aviation practice of Ramboll UK

Ramboll recently appointed Mike Smith as its UK Aviation Project Director. Smith brings his 30 years’ experience in the aviation industry to the consultancy, with the aim of further developing the firm’s aviation capability.

Mike Smith has worked in the aviation industry since 1993, starting at British Aerospace Consultancy Services as a Regional Project Manager, before moving to the company’s Polish division as Managing Director in 1994. Two years later Smith became British Aerospace’s International Operations Director, a role he held for three years. In 1999 Smith left the company and joined the UK Government’s Department of Trade and Industry as an Airports Advisor, supporting the department on international airport projects.

He joined BAE Systems in 2001 to become their International Projects Director for Infrastructure Solutions, and, after four years, became the firm’s Consultancy Group manager a role he held until 2008. In 2009 Smith became BAE Systems’ Performance Excellence Programme Manager, with the three year role to identify, analyse and address complex business improvement issues and deliver Group-wide solutions. In 2012 he joined Global Travel Investments as its VP International Development, working for two years at the firm.

Smith holds a Master’s degree in Construction Engineering from the University of Leeds and a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Liverpool.

Smith brings his extensive experience in the aviation industry to his new role as UK Aviation Project Director at engineering, design and management consulting firm Ramboll. In this new role, Smith will drive the firm’s delivery of multidisciplinary engineering services to major airport operators across the world – with the firm so far having 200 aviation related projects under its wing in projects across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Australasia.
