He joined BAE Systems in 2001 to become their International Projects Director for Infrastructure Solutions, and, after four years, became the firm’s Consultancy Group manager a role he held until 2008. In 2009 Smith became BAE Systems’ Performance Excellence Programme Manager, with the three year role to identify, analyse and address complex business improvement issues and deliver Group-wide solutions. In 2012 he joined Global Travel Investments as its VP International Development, working for two years at the firm.

Smith holds a Master’s degree in Construction Engineering from the University of Leeds and a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Liverpool.

Smith brings his extensive experience in the aviation industry to his new role as UK Aviation Project Director at engineering, design and management consulting firm Ramboll. In this new role, Smith will drive the firm’s delivery of multidisciplinary engineering services to major airport operators across the world – with the firm so far having 200 aviation related projects under its wing in projects across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Australasia.

Dan Harvey, Ramboll’s Executive Director for Transport, says: “We are committed to developing our aviation capability and Mike’s considerable experience in the sector will help us achieve this aim. We welcome him and wish him every success in his new role.” Smith adds: “There is a great deal of breadth and depth in the aviation sector and the opportunity to focus on this in my new role is very exciting. Ramboll has a strong track record in airport development and I’m looking forward to building on its reputation and to leading a focused multidisciplinary offering for existing and potential clients both in the UK and overseas.”
