New charity record for Cambridge Consultants staff
Cambridge Consultants has raised a new record with its charity fundraising efforts and donated almost 30 thousand pound to the Centre 33 Young Carers Project in Cambridge, which offers support for young carers, including mentoring, group talks and social activities.
Young carers are young people under 18 who provide care, assistance or support to a family member who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, or has a substance misuse problem. These carers carry out significant or substantial caring tasks with a level of responsibility that is inappropriate to their age or development.
Centre 33 Young Carers Project
The Centre 33 Young carers project has been set up to provide young carers living in Cambridge city, South Cambridgeshire and East Cambridgeshire a range of services, including providing someone to talk to, regular group meetings, fun activities and new friends. The project also takes it up to talk to school staff or other professionals with – or on behalf of – young carers.
The employees of Cambridge Consultants chose Centre 33 as their local ‘charity of the year’ for 2014 and were able to present the charity a cheque for £28,000. This represents a new record for the firm which it was able to raise as a result of several activities, including a monthly cake trolley, marathon runs, sales of bacon butties and regular raffles. “We’ve all enjoyed raising this record amount of money for the Centre 33 Young Carers Project, which provides much-needed support for so many local families. Each year our staff proves even more generous with their time and money to enable us to make a real difference in our community,” comments Louise James, Head of the firm’s Charity Committee. The amount raised by the employees was matched by the consulting firm, doubling the amount.
Kate Rees, Project Manager at Centre 33, on the money raised: “This will make an amazing difference to lots of local young carers. This money will go towards us running groups and providing one-to-one support for those young carers. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at Cambridge Consultants for raising such an incredible amount of money.”
