PwC rides again, as June charity cycle tour begins

01 June 2017 Consultancy.uk

After raising £150,000 in 2015, PwC rides again this summer, as staff from across the United Kingdom get on their bike for the firm’s Ride the Nation campaign. Donations raised will be split 50:50 between local offices selected charities, and the PwC Foundation’s own Race for £3 million.

Ride the Nation, is a country-wide cycling tour spanning the length and breadth of the UK in the name of charity. This year’s ride, which commences on the 1st of June, will see UK staff of Big Four consulting firm PwC take to the roads for the next 30 days, as they bid to top their previous good-will haul of £150,000, which they collected over the course of the inaugural event in 2015.

Ride the Nation 2015 remains the single largest event of its kind the UK firm has embarked upon, and saw over 700 staff taking part in the bicycle bonanza, with support from employees of every grade and seniority in every office nationwide.

Tour de Force

The mammoth 2000 mile tour, conceived of and organised solely by PwC staff, will this year begin again in London, with participants completing a huge relay circuit of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, before returning to the nation’s capital, having visited all 30 of PwC’s UK offices. The 26 different stages will link saddle-sore staff across the network from Aberdeen to Plymouth, and even includes a leg to the Channel Islands, while a five-strong national team will also complete the entire route alongside local partakers.

PwC have announced half of all proceeds will be donated to local charities of each branch’s choosing, while the other 50% will be put toward the PwC Foundation’s firm-wide Race for £3 million. As part of The Race, the company has challenged itself to raise £3 million for charities tackling health, education and employability issues, those being the National Literacy Trust, Groundwork, Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer Scotland, Wellbeing of Women and Beyond Food Foundation.

Contributing to this fund, PwC also announced in the build up to the Ride that the event is to be sponsored by a number of high-profile backers, including cycling store Halfords, hotel network Marriott International and their member hotel Grosvenor House, car manufacturers BMW and rental service Hertz, promotional products company Outstanding Branding and the Principal Hotel Company.

In anticipation of the starting gun, Julian Sansum, PwC’s South East champion, noted her delight at the return of Ride the Nation. "This is an epic challenge in which all our people can get involved whether it’s getting in the saddle to cycle, fundraising for local charities, or cheering on colleagues. Supporting our local communities is incredibly important to PwC and I am always impressed by the team’s commitment and enthusiasm in their support of a range of local causes.”
