UK professional services group Capita have acquired NYS Corporate, a Yorkshire-based events, conference and travel agency, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will see around 60 staff become part of Capita’s Travel and Events’ service. The deal, which sees NYS Corporate retain its market identity, is aimed at boosting the firm’s technological footprint in the sector.

Headquartered in York, England, NYS Corporate was founded in 1997, and after 20 years as a conference and travel management agency now reports an annual turnover of around £43 million. The company employs over 60 people and provides a variety of bespoke end-to-end offerings to clients, utilising a range of proprietary technologies to deliver its services.

Through the deal, Capita stated its intent to be better able to service its client base, by blending NYS Corporate’s technological innovation with its own brand of personalised customer services. However, both firms were listed in the upper 30 of Buying Business Travel’s top 50 travel management groups, and so Capita undoubtedly hopes the acquisition of former rivals NYS will help maintain the firm’s grip on a large portion of the market – as well as to develop their own business portfolio.

Capita Co-opts Competitor

The professional services group, who reported a £4,909 million revenue in 2016, will integrate NYS Corporate into its own services offering in the space, Capita Travel and Events’ service. The acquired company will still remain semi-independent however, continuing to operate with all present staff and under its own branding. Capita’s Chief Commercial Officer, Trevor Elswood, will meanwhile expand his responsibilities under the deal, after his appointment as Managing Director of NYS Corporate within the wider group. The combined firms will have access to resources amounting to £560 million in revenues, as well as a workforce over 1,000-strong, across seven locations in the UK.

James Parkhouse, CEO of Capita’s travel and events business, commented. “NYS Corporate has built a great reputation for innovative technology, aligned to a strong service ethos and deep knowledge in the meetings industry. Our combined expertise enhances our existing capabilities and positions us strongly in the UK’s events, meetings and business travel sector.”
