Asset Management consulting firm UMS Group enters UK market
Boutique consulting firm UMS Group has entered the UK market, appointing Indraneel (Indy) Chakrabarti as Director for UK to lead the newly launched operation. His primary objectives will be to create sustainable and profitable new business opportunities for the power, renewables and utilities sector specialist and develop and manage a team to build a market position and take the business forward.
Chakrabarti, who brings nearly 20 years of consulting, asset management and financial services sector experience, will oversee the 7th global location for UMS Group adding to existing offices in the US, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, The Philippines and Australia. The parent firm was founded in the US in 1989 by Jack Shearman (CEO of the Group), with the European headquarters established a decade ago by the Dutchman Jan Schipper.
In addition to management consulting and aviation sector infrastructure asset management experience, Chakrabarti provides a financial perspective with previous exposure in investment banking and insurance covering financial due diligence, banking regulation and compliance, project finance and sponsorship investment evaluation.
During his spell as an independent consultant, Chakrabarti provided strategic overview and asset management advisory support to a number of clients ranging from social media marketing to food and beverage. Focus areas covered operational due diligence and organisational and cultural change integration.
As a major part of his new role, Chakrabarti, who holds a Postgraduate Diploma from the European Sponsorship Association in Sponsorship Evaluation and Investment, a Postgraduate certificate in Project Finance from Middlesex Business School in London and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Business Economics and Accounting from the University of Southampton in the UK, will be responsible for promoting UMS brand recognition within the UK.
Commenting on his decision to the join the consulting firm, Chakrabarti says he was impressed and excited by the ambitious expansion plans of UMS Group that were outlined in a meeting with Jan Schipper and relishes the challenge of developing an organisation in a new environment. Chakrabarti also points out that he felt the situation akin to a new business start-up and wants to be part of this type of venture from cradle through to a viable and prosperous going concern.
