Ramboll Environ appoints Steve Laking as regional leader

Ramboll Environ has bolstered its senior leadership with the appointment of industry veteran Steve Laking to the role of Europe and Africa Division President and Senior Director. He is tasked with furthering the firm's footprint, as well as overseeing client development and talent management.

Prior to joining Ramboll Environ, acquired by Ramboll in 2014, Steve Laking worked at Environmental Resources Management (ERM) as the Commercial Director of its Speciality Global Businesses, a role he held for over a year. His work for the company, however, dates back to 2003, when he joined the company’s Australian operation as a Managing Partner, before becoming the firm’s Managing Director in the UK and Ireland in 2005, the regional Chief Executive Officer for APAC in 2008, and the firm’s Global Impact Assessment and Planning Practice Leader in 2012. Earlier in his career, Laking held several leadership roles at URS Corporation – he started at the company in 1993.

Laking holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia and a Master of Science in Hydrogeology from the University of Birmingham.

Laking joins Ramboll Environ’s Europe and Africa Division (EUA) as President and Senior Director. His new role sees Laking take responsibility for client development and the hiring of senior talent for the region. In addition, as part of the firm’s sustainable growth strategy in the face of changing market conditions, he is tasked with developing acquisition targets and further broadening the firm’s Sub-Saharan Africa footprint.

Laking comments that it has “been a fantastic journey” towards stepping into the leadership of Ramboll Environ’s Europe and Africa operations. He adds, “I am also excited by the new challenge of focusing on our key clients and aligning our strategy to their current and emerging needs for reaching their environmental and societal goals.”
