Capita buys data storage specialist Solid State Solutions
Capita has acquired data storage specialist Solid State Solutions. The merger will give the firm access to highly secure data centres required to take on government clients as well as broaden its IT sophistication with 30 professionals. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
Solid State Solutions (S3) is a specialist in identifying and providing bespoke data storage solutions across rapidly changing business landscapes. S3 was founded in 1988, has a staff of 30, and more than 300 regular customers from the private and public sector. The firm’s key competencies are in cross industry expertise and extensive knowledge of sophisticated infrastructures, with which it can fulfil requirements concerning data availability and management, information security, business continuance, disaster recovery and investment protection.
Capita is one of the larger providers of business process management and integrated professional support service solutions in the UK. The firm works with both large private and public clients and has 64,000 staff across the UK, Europe, South Africa and India.
Capita’s acquisition of S3 will provide it with a number of key resources, including highly secure data centres that will allow it to take on government contracts that demand certain certifications. “S3 currently utilises datacentre space in a Tier 3+ data centre located in Farnborough, Hampshire, which is BIL3 and List X accredited,” the firm explains. Capita’s acquisition of S3 follows a number of other acquisitions in the tech industry, including Retain International, and specialist security reseller Network Technology Solutions.
“Data storage is becoming increasingly important for our clients – they want a solution which not only offers guaranteed security but also flexibility, accessibility and value,” comments Peter Hands, Executive Director of Capita IT Enterprise Services, on the acquisition. “S3 prides itself on its ability to understand a business quickly and identify key operational requirements. Drawing on its extensive industry experience and technical expertise, it can recommend and then implement best of breed storage solutions from a portfolio of established and trusted vendors. It is a welcome addition to our business.”
