Norwegian government-run Nye Veier hires Ramboll for road project
The new Norwegian government-run organisation, Nye Veier, aims to increase the efficiency of the development of major road networks in the country. As part of its work on the development of the E18, between Langangen and Grimstad, the organisation has hired Ramboll, in joint partnership with Asplan Viak, to manage the planning process for a 17 km, 4-lane highway between Langangen and Rugtvedt.
Nye Veier is a Norwegian government-run organisation, founded in 2015, tasked with the development of the country’s major road networks, taking over responsibility for several major highway projects from the NPRA at the start of this year. The new organisation aims to achieve a more efficient delivery of new projects, seeking to match neighbour Sweden’s track record in road construction projects. Current projects being overseen by Nye Veier include the European route E39 between Kristiansand and Ålgård, European route E18 between Langangen and Grimstad and E6 in the Trøndelag and Mjøs region.
Ramboll, in joint partnership with Asplan Viak, has announced that it won a contract with Nye Veier to manage the planning process for a new 17 km, 4-lane highway between Langangen and Rugtvedt, which is part of the wider development of the E18. The contract builds on earlier work delivered by Ramboll for Nye Veier, which included the development of municipality plans (including an impact assessment) for Nye Veier and the NPRA, regarding a new 4 track E18/E39 outer ring road in the municipalities of Kristiansand and Songdal. The engagement is worth 50,000 hours to the firm, although the value of the deal has not been disclosed.
“Use of experts from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the UK was a winning factor,” says Ruth Gunlaug Haug, Division Manager from Roads Ramboll Norway. “This was a much needed, and very important win for us,” she adds.
