About the Capital Markets Team

This role is based in the Capital Markets team within the Financial Services practice at Alvarez and Marsal in London. We work with a diverse group of global clients including banks, asset managers, investment funds, traders, brokers, exchanges, law firms and regulators. We offer expertise across assets classes in three key areas:

Financial advisory: we advise banks and other financial institutions on issues related to capital adequacy, risk models and liquidity management. We assist clients with balance sheet management and regulatory requirements such as ICAAP, ILAAP, IRRBB, recovery planning and stress testing. We have deep expertise in all areas of risk management including market risk, credit risk and stress testing. We also support transactions, such as mergers & acquisitions, liquidations or restructurings, where expertise in trading, derivatives or financial risk management is required.

Disputes & investigations : we assist asset managers and investors on complex & high-value disputes involving the valuation and/or suitability of complex financial products, portfolio risk & leverage, and breach of investment guidelines. We also work with legal teams, investment banks, trading houses and regulators to assist with investigation into market conduct and market manipulation. We have been involved in some of the pivotal issues including interest rate benchmark manipulation in the financial services sector and market abuse in the commodities industry.

Non-financial advisory : we assist banks, brokers and commodity houses with their risk management frameworks, internal controls, surveillance & supervision and financial compliance issues in their trading and risk functions. We have advised tier 1 investment banks and some of the largest global commodities companies in this space.

Our Capital Markets team is comprised of a mix of seasoned financial services practitioners and highly skilled consultants.

Your Role and Responsibilities

An opportunity exists for an experienced senior associate or manager to join the team based in our London office. You will have experience in delivering solutions that address businesses’ critical strategic issues gained from either operational or advisory roles in the capital markets sector.

You will support the development and execution of our strategy focused on specific target clients and distinctive go-to-market propositions that fit the A&M brand and model. You will take responsibility for building financial models and conducting research and analysis on highly specialised topics.

Specifically, you will:

· provide technical, analytical and modelling support to projects involving trading, derivatives and banking book products,

· assist with implementation and review of capital adequacy, treasury functions, risk management frameworks, stress testing and other related regulatory requirements,

· support the senior team with client outreach and proposals for new opportunities,

· interact with stakeholders in the clients’ business and with professionals from leading financial institutions, and

· work with the broader A&M’s European FS team to ensure a coordinated go-to-market approach, undertake international project teams, and develop the A&M brand and business.

What You Should Offer

The preferred candidate for this appointment will be an action-oriented self-starter. You will be comfortable working as part of a high performing team. You will be driven and solution-focused by nature and possess strong analytical skills and quantitative skills to be able to design models and carry out complex financial analysis.

Specifically, you will have:

• a BA/BSc or MSc in a quantitative discipline and/or relevant professional qualifications
• relevant experience with a well-regarded consulting firm or financial institution with roles geared towards banking, trading or energy/commodities sectors,
• a good understanding of financial instruments, derivatives valuation, trading & hedging and/or risk management,
• ability to work efficiently in team settings by providing clear guidance and communicating effectively,
• ability to produce quality work in a restricted time environment, while prioritising a diverse set of responsibilities,
• programming knowledge (e.g., Python, R Studio, VBA),
• proficiency in English (verbal & written) – an additional European language skill would be desirable, and experience in formal report writing will be considered a plus.
• It would be desirable that you have prior experience in one of the following three areas: (i) experience in capital markets disputes & investigations, (ii) exposure to risk modelling in relevant areas such as IRRBB, ICAAP, ILAAP and stress testing processes, or (iii) solid understanding of capital management and treasury functions in banking.
