An Overview of the Role

The Operations Director will provide the leadership and drive to a multi-functional team responsible for strategic and daily execution of the Operations function, providing the critical link between recruitment, resourcing, HR, finance and marketing, to plan for, monitor and execute our growth strategy.  This role reports directly into the COO.

This is a strategic role working in a fast-paced environment. You will need to have a background in Operations and an exceptional ability to switch between strategic thinking, hands on approach, coaching/developing with a strong appreciation of the complex nature surrounding management consulting and project delivery. 

You will need to be able to spot opportunities to drive efficiencies and plan for change management to effectively implement and embed new ways of working, in order to support a growing business, ultimately building business practices to provide resilience at scale.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead multi-disciplinary recruitment and resourcing functions to support the UK Invent business to achieve the 2025 ambitions, constantly monitoring and driving business performance
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate closely with Sales, HR and Finance leadership and teams to ensure a holistic approach to driving business performance
  • Develop robust reporting on weekly, monthly and quarterly schedules and work with Leadership Team to d evelop and implement strategies that continuously improve and evolve the operations function
  • Working with Leaders to inform strategic decision making and align short-term and long-term operational plans
  • Educate and build awareness across Invent of Operational Excellence, working closely with the HR teams to proactively support a change management process and ensure the business and its leaders deliver against KPIs
  • Drive improvements and scale to the operations function to deliver on the financial targets of the UK
  • Support the development of the operations function to become a market leading function, across recruitment and operations, responsibility for succession planning, organisational and talent development
  • To maintain a professional and supportive relationship with team members and other departments to deliver business objectives or deadlines, in particular across the UK and Global Invent.


  • Support monthly reporting requirements
  • Chair/input weekly/monthly performance review sessions with functional leadership
  • Lead & support operational improvement initiatives across the business
  • Lead the development of strategic long range work force plans in conjunction with stakeholders
  • Plan and oversee capacity build, covering headcount/recruitment based on headcount trends & revenue/sales forecasts and strategic workforce plans.
  • Intervene on engagement financial performance & working cap issues, based on finance analysis/escalations.

Financial management and planning

  • Monitor/forecast financial performance against Plan/Outlook for the supply metrics
  • Review KPIs and confirm/drive actions to address issues, including clear actions that we need Leads to take to support performance
  • Oversee & support statutory entity reporting & governance
  • Input to Budgeting and headcount forecasting


  • Work with the Resourcing team to ensure effective resource deployment across client chargeable, Business Development and other key activity
  • Oversee and intervene on resourcing issues (conflicts, unfilled roles, spare capacity) as required
  • Drive actions to achieve delivery model changes needed, including offshore.


Ability to create and implement strategies and approaches for an operations department with a desire to continually drive and manage change to improve the client offering and departmental efficiency.


  • Significant recent experience within a management role, preferably within a Management Consulting environment
  • Broad management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams or manage across the function. Typically, within a specific technical area or broad expertise across multiple related job areas
  • Ability to demonstrate significant understanding of operations management best practice
  • Proven ability to plan and manage operational processes for maximum efficiency and productivity
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal, ability to articulate technical and non-technical issues to staff with different domain knowledge/responsibilities, whilst building relationships across all levels
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, problem solve and execute duties with a thorough, diligent and practical approach
  • Ability and experience of executing and driving change.
