Job description

We’re an innovation and transformation consultancy that believes in the power of ingenuity to build a positive-human future in a technology-driven world. Our diverse teams of experts combine innovative thinking with breakthrough-technologies to progress further, faster.

With a global network of FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 clients, we’ll offer you unrivalled opportunities for growth and the freedom to excel. Combining strategies, technologies and innovation, we turn complexity to opportunity and deliver enduring results, enabling you to build a lasting career.

Isn’t it time you joined us?

Become part of the Team

PA Consulting works with clients who want to utilise technology to gain a commercial edge in new and established markets. As the world changes at an ever-increasing rate PA’s client use our technical expertise to get ahead of the curve. The Applied Sciences team used fundamental science to support early stage and proof of concept projects, ultimately answering the question, “Is this possible?” For this we need mechanistically-minded scientists who want to go further than just ask the questions but want to build prototypes and work with engineers to realise the solution.

  • We translate science and technology into commercially viable break-out products and processes
  • We give our clients a true competitive edge
  • We do this by the practical application of physics

You could be looking at additive and digital manufacturing techniques in new product development, new biodegradable plastics for packaging solutions or deep analysis of raw material supply chains and their effects on established products. This role encompasses packaging, process development, NPD, instrumentation and product analysis, sensory sciences and next gen manufacturing.

We are looking for like-minded ‘hands on’ scientists that like nothing better than delivering a product solution that provides a competitive edge for our clients who are amongst the global leaders in the food process and production space.

We have a strong client base in the Food Technology industry. Many of our clients seek our support investigating new processing, sterilisation and packaging technologies. We look at the chemistry of food and help our clients maximise flavour, texture, aromatics and food safety.

You should have:

  • A strong academic background in areas related to industrial/process chemistry
  • Experience, preferably to PhD level, in the development of “applied solutions” – i.e industrial applications
  • Industrial experience gained in a R&D role or from a highly industrial-focused academic post

In addition, any experience of the following will also be beneficial:

  • Hands-on development of industrial chemical processing technologies
  • Product/process development in a commercial environment,
  • Management of trials and innovation projects within the food industry
  • An understanding of concepts like
    • sterility testing
    • shelf-life analysis
    • raw material testing and auditing
    • packaging materials
    • food production machinery and manufacturing process

This is an exciting opportunity to apply science to food technology with the goal of developing exciting new products, processes and practices.
