Dry Moulded Fibre & Mechanical Engineering at PA
Our Mechanical Engineering experts create lasting change by providing a one-stop product development service that takes products to market, from advising on business cases and creating initial concepts through to design and development; from manufacture and supply chain set-up to ongoing support for lasting success.
Our key focus is finding immediate solutions to the issues of single use plastics and sustainability. We have a patented manufacturing technology in the Dry Moulded Fibre (DMF) space, aimed at helping solve this issue for the circular economy. Working with leading consumer goods companies, we are developing new products and processes to help meet their sustainability agenda and bring this impact to the world.
The Role
As Packaging & Prototype Development Lead, you would be joining our expanding Dry Moulded Fibre development lab. This is a fast-paced technology development team where we design and produce mould tooling to be used with pressure forming equipment, to manufacture sample components for testing, and evaluation purposes. Parts and processes are refined prior to scale-up, for mass manufacture.
As a part of your role you will:
· Work in the DMF Development Lab reporting to the Lab head.
·Liaise regularly with design and tooling teams to understand the client requirements and share feedback from manufacturing point of view
·Contribute to producing a range of prototype and test samples using one of the 4 presses in our development lab
·Use your experience and analytical skills to generate, evaluate and implement innovative ideas to solve manufacturing challenges in forming 3D parts using DMF technology
About You
To rise to the challenge that this Packaging and Prototype Development Lead role brings you will have strong Research & Development experience from industry of the consulting space. No prior experience of specific machinery is required, however a good grasp of common manufacturing techniques, processes and technologies would be beneficial.
Essential experience includes:
· Hands on experience using production equipment to develop products
· A recognised qualfiication in Mechanical Engineering
· Thorough understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals
· Tooling design and development, sample / model making, and machining
· Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
Experience in at least one of the following:
· Injection moulding
· Blow moulding
· Vacuum forming
· Cellulose moulding / packaging would be a bonus
Skills/Personal Qualities:
·Ability to innovate, communicate and think freely outside the box
·Positive and pragmatic attitude towards problem solving using both logic and creative/innovative thinking
·Ability to plan and prioritise, working to deadlines and managing workload is critical
·Attention to detail is a must
·Analytical and considered approach to planning and delivering tasks.
·Energy and enthusiasm to take on a range of new challenges
·Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and individually
