Performance-ballistics Engineer

Capgemini Engineering is looking for security cleared Engineers and Consultants with a background in Modelling, Flight Performance and Ballistics. Our specific area of interest is in the Complex & Guided Weapons domain.

Our portfolio of projects includes work at all stages of the system lifecycle, from concept definition to in-service support. As well as directly supporting Engineering tasks for our clients, we also offer consultancy services to improve organisation’s Systems Engineering capabilities and enable digital transformation.

We ensure that we are offering good practice, taking into account both established and emerging technologies and techniques, such as Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or Multi-Physics Optimisation methods.

Due to the nature of the work, our consultants will need to regularly work from one of our client sites (Bristol or Stevenage).

You may be involved in the following:

• Interact with Systems Design teams to gather all necessary data, understand design intent and drivers
• Set up flight performance models in typical systems simulation environment (Matlab-Simulink) with appropriate level of fidelity/idealisation
• Run simulations for different scenarios, as well as parametric or trade studies
• Perform analysis of results, extracting main trends like sensitivity to design parameters
• Communicate/discuss results and findings during technical reviews
• Write technical reports describing modelling approach
• Report progress status internally and externally

Our consultants work within Capgemini teams, and as their expertise grows, with an increasing degree of autonomy to directly support our clients.

Our more senior consultants are expected to contribute significantly to sales support, the improvement of Capgemini Engineering’s Analysis capability, and to networking across the systems engineering community to develop their reputation as experts in their field.

Essential

• Must hold, or be eligible for, UK government security clearance
• Experience of working in the Defence industry
• Background in Mechanical and/or Aerospace Engineering
• Knowledge and experience in six degrees-of-freedom approach to rigid body motion laws
• Proficient in modelling and simulation environments, Matlab/Simulink in particular
• Knowledge and experience in flight performance and ballistics
• Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to support client needs
• Effective oral and written communication as well as influencing and stakeholder management skills

Desirable

• Experience of complex guided weapons systems and supporting technologies
• Experience of scripting/programming for modelling & simulation
• Chartered Engineer status, or the desire to work towards it
