R&D Cost Analysis Specialist (Associate / Manager)
A&M Taxand’s specialist UK R&D Tax Services team consists of experienced tax professionals and engineers who advise companies on the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of methodologies to support their R&D claims. The team deals primarily with R&D claims for large companies, whether foreign-owned, privately held or listed groups.
We have a vacancy for an R&D costing specialist to join the fast-growing team at A&M Taxand. The ideal candidate will be ACA and/or CTA qualified, have experience of working in R&D tax in a professional services environment, and combine analytical ability with written and verbal communication skills.
Our costing specialists work with clients to design appropriate methodologies to robustly and efficiently quantify R&D claims. The analysis primarily uses Excel, and we are increasingly using solutions such as Alteryx.
Responsibilities:
Project teams are generally multidisciplinary, with you as an experienced tax/costing specialist collaborating with the technical team to ensure that clients’ R&D assessments are accurately translated into qualifying expenditure, and risks are managed and communicated appropriately.
You will be responsible for:
Working with clients to identify records to quantify R&D activities
Preparing claim analysis, often involving large and complex datasets
Structuring data to enable the technical team to gather project assessments
Managing and documenting risk throughout engagements
Ensuring clients understand their R&D claims, and the impact on their overall tax position
Qualifications and experience:
CTA or similar professional qualification
3+ years of tax experience in a client facing role, and preferably 1+ years of R&D costing experience
In-depth knowledge of UK R&D tax legislation
Expertise with Microsoft Excel, in particular the ability to build auditable analysis efficiently
Experience with Alteryx would be an advantage
Experience of advising on patent box, and working within corporate tax more broadly, would be an advantage
