Analyst, Financial Services Advisory

This role sits within the Financial Industry Advisory Services (FIAS) practice here at Alvarez and Marsal London.  A&M FIAS revolves around three core areas of expertise; Performance Improvement, Bank Restructuring and Regulatory Advisory.

The Purpose of the role:

As a valued member of the FIAS London team, you will work on a variety of projects, leveraging your financial services industry knowledge and your experience of financial modelling to support the senior team members in managing transformation programs, implementing growth strategies, cost reduction initiatives, winding down non-core assets and above all else creating value for our clients.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to become involved in a ‘hands on’ team.  You will contribute to work streams on large operational improvement/transformation programs and smaller projects, analyzing the status quo and developing sound solutions either from an external point of view or in collaborative settings with your client organization. 

Responsibilities:

Assignments will range from advising on implementing new regulation, operational improvement/transformation of systems, process, technology and policies, through to more traditional restructuring and transactions work. To this effectively, you will need to:

  • Keep constantly on top of any regulatory changes and advise clients accordingly;

  • Work closely with senior stakeholders in the client’s business and with professionals from leading financial institutions;

  • Analyze credit worthiness of individual borrowers and entire loan portfolios;

  • Produce extensive financial modelling & analysis including cash flow models and projections;

  • Perform operational review, identify opportunities for cost optimization and provide implementation support;

  • Advise on stressed/distressed non-performing leveraged loans and other credit portfolios.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Must have a high-grade degree (or equivalent) in a relevant finance, economics or business-related subject;

  • At least some previous work experience with a Big 4 Consulting Firm or other well-established and strong International Advisory Organization;

  • Excellent financial modelling skills (Excel);

  • Excellent presentation skills (PowerPoint);

  • Native English language skills is essential (both written & verbal);

  • Willingness to travel often (mainly within Europe);

  • EU citizenship or right to work in the EU

  • Be an action-oriented self-starter with strong analytical skills and entrepreneurial flair.

Desirable:

  • Industry exposure working with high profile Financial Institutions a strong preference;

  • Either an established interest in or prior knowledge of- recent or pending UK and EU regulatory initiatives would be useful;

  • Additional European languages are highly desirable;

  • Experience of the design and delivery of operating models desirable;

  • Experience of working with stressed/distressed non-performing leveraged loans and other credit portfolios;

  • Masters or MBA graduates also preferred.
