Retail and Consumer Transformation

The Retail and Consumer specialist team focuses on providing the sector specific transformation capabilities including commercial effectiveness, organisation design, performance improvement and turnaround. The senior team brings unrivalled experience from both operational and advisory roles in the retail and consumer sector to deliver the results clients need across the UK and Europe. The team of senior professionals have not just capabilities as advisors but in most, if not all, cases also have a proven and successful track record as a senior level executive in operational roles within an organisation. These senior professionals relish the opportunity to work in a “hands-on” style with senior client management, and with the entrepreneurial freedom and opportunities which are at the heart of A&M’s culture.

The Opportunity - Director

The opportunity to be part of European Retail and Consumer Transformation, bringing your leadership skills and expertise to shape and grow the future of this dynamic team.

We are looking for senior managers and operators who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and lead the change agenda within Retail and Consumer industries. As a Director, you will be responsible in shaping and leading the change and transformation for the industry. You will not only play a role as a sector expert for clients but also for the practices within A&M and will be delivering projects with Private Equity, Restructuring and other A&M business units. You will be based out of London but be part of the pan-European practice and delivering European agenda and projects.

In summary, you will have an opportunity to work with ambitious and senior operators within the sector whom you can learn from whilst working in the entrepreneurial environment to make a true impact to shape and foster the future of the team. You will be operating on a pan-European level across a wider A&M community to lead and manage the engagement and client relationship in the Retail and Consumer Sector.

Desired Skills and Experience

You will be a high-energy individual with excellent operational and commercial skills and a track record of success. You must like new challenges with true desire to continue to grow. You will bring broad operational experience from blue chip retail environments, and a track record in leading and managing transformation and performance improvement. You must also bring consulting experience from a leading strategy consultancy with a track record in delivering projects. You will be able to demonstrate a record of success in delivering major performance improvement / transformation projects and will have a tight grasp on current industry trends and operational challenges. We would expect the successful candidate to bring:

  • Experiences with the blend of industry and advisory experiences with proven track record in delivering changes and results
  • Professional network across the UK and European Retail and/or Consumer industry is highly desirable
  • First class education from a top-rated university; MBA is desirable but not essential
  • Retail or Consumer Industry experiences combined with advisory experience in the sector
  • Clear determination to deliver the latest thinking in retail solutions within a highly competitive advisory marketplace
  • Analytical rigour, preferably with financial experience
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and unpredictable environment
  • Fluency in English is essential and other European languages are highly desirable

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, confident presenter.
  • Objective, fact-based approach to problem solving.
