PA Consulting a re a leading Technology Consulting company based in Melbourn (near Royston), Herts who specialise in supporting clients with product and process development.  With a skilled team of engineers and scientists, PA work on exciting projects across industry sectors such as healthcare, energy, defence and consumer products.  

We are looking for a Technician to support our activities in the fabrication plan working across all areas of our product development activities.  This is a practical, hands-on role which would suit an someone who likes autonomy, responsibility and the chance to work across an amazing array of projects.

Key Tasks / Accountabilities

  • Design, implementation, control and documentation of test jigs, fixtures and prototype systems
  • Assembling, testing and troubleshooting prototypes
  • Electro-mechanical and electropneumatic design and assembly
  • Rapid prototyping
  • 3D Printing
  • Generating basic CAD and drawings
  • Manual turning and milling
  • Generating progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
What we're looking for

Requirements & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels within the business
  • Ability to work flexibly within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team
  • An ability to work autonomously, taking accountability for solving a problem
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritise effectively



  • Apprentice / NVQ L3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience Required:

  • Proven ability to find creative solutions and innovate – proven problem solving
  • Familiar with the design process and New Product Development
  • Design and integration of basic, low voltage electrical systems
  • Experience with basic pneumatic and electrical systems
  • Experience of basic logic control (e.g. Micro PLCs) is advantageous
  • General Lab/workshop best practice



  • Machining (turning and milling), manual or CNC
  • Prototype manufacture, build and test
  • Part and Assembly design in 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks)
  • Electromechanics and electropneumatics
