What we're looking for

Our growing Brand Strategy team works to create contemporary and compelling marketing and brand strategies for our clients. This means combining established brand theory and the latest brand thinking with the hands-on realities of projects and your own experience of insight and brand. And we also work closely with Sparkler’s insight teams to collaboratively develop these strategies.

Although small (currently three consultants), we’re experiencing a surge in demand for our offer and are looking for a Principal Consultant to join the team.

The role of the Principal Consultant is critical in delivering success on projects, bringing business into the company and contributing to growth.

At this level, you’ll be taking full commercial and operational ownership of your own projects, leading client accounts and driving new business wins. You’ll be able to manage and successfully deliver large and complex projects involving multiple markets, methodologies and specialisms.

The successful candidate will report into a Managing Consultant and should in future have line management responsibilities of their own.


Essential Requirements:

- significant experience working in brand management, strategy, innovation, planning and/or strategic insight roles, with a sound knowledge of marketing disciplines (brand management, advertising, positioning, sponsorship, innovation etc) and communications channels (atl, digital, social, etc)

- Strong thinker, able to work within a team and independently, analysing, consider and discussing the issues at the heart of each project

- Business-minded, with strong and demonstrable commercial abilities; as a Principal Consultant, you’ll be accountable for winning new business, as well as continuing to improve the size and profitability of existing client relationships

- Excellent communicator:

  • With internal stakeholders, whether the strategy team lead, rest of the project team, the wider insight teams, our Studio or finance team
  • With clients, throughout the project, as well as writing and presenting recommendations confidently and effectively in inspiring and genuinely interesting debriefs and reporting documents
  • With external stakeholders – these may be other agencies (eg creative, design) or partners

- Strong project management skills, with the ability to own a project from start to finish, monitoring progress and dealing with issues as they arise

- Research literacy in both qual and quant and the ability to design, manage and moderate qualitative research when required

- Facilitation stills, designing, managing and running workshops/meetings

-Line management of direct reports and ability to coach and train more junior members of the wider team in key research skills

- Experience speaking at industry conferences and event

- Leadership; you’ll be leading on accounts and projects but also inspiring teams, peers and more junior members of staff through your enthusiasm and expertise

- Demonstrates excellence at every opportunity; in your thinking, emails, proposals, debriefs, management, finances etc.

- Constant curiosity and creativity, with a thirst for new knowledge, a flair for innovation and the ability to apply these to project delivery

- Positive, proactive ‘can-do’ attitude towards clients, suppliers and colleagues

- Enjoy working independently but able to lead and be part of a cohesive team

- A great team player, whether leading it or a contributor to it, setting an inspiring example to colleagues
