Become part of the Team

This role is embedded within PA’s Applied Science team, a mixed discipline group of scientists that work at the heart of PA’s innovation and product development services.  Working across the physics/chemistry/biology space, Applied Science performs the materials analysis, proof of concept and simulation expertise to a wide variety of client projects spanning diverse industry sectors.

To this end, the Global Innovation and Technology Centre in Melbourn (Cambs) is looking to hire a Laboratory Technician to support ongoing projects.  This role suits someone who is naturally attracted to hardware and instrumentation and, whilst perhaps not a classically trained engineer, has always found themselves working with the tools and instruments used in labs; helping to optimise their use and develop methods.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate will be someone who has proven experience working with processes, automation and instrumentation in a laboratory setting.  They should be pragmatic, at home working with instrument suppliers to ensure best practice as well as thinking beyond standard protocols.  This person will have a classical technical degree but will be happy to work at the interface of all applied sciences and engineering, helping our consultants come up with novel solutions and processes.

  • First degree in technical subject (Engineering, Sciences etc)
  • Proven experience adapting processes and instrumentation for laboratory functions
  • Pragmatic, can-do attitude – happy to get their hands dirty and be inventive
  • Great time management skills – comfortable multi-tasking between projects
  • Strong analysis and reporting skills, naturally data-led in their thinking
  • Good interpersonal skills – comfortable liaising with technical staff across multiple disciplines

This is a great opportunity for hardware-minded scientists who loves being involved in building and testing new types of instrumentation, hardware and getting the most out of the equipment PA has.  No two days will be the same!

• Private medical insurance
• Travel allowance
• 25 days annual leave with the opportunity to buy 5 additional days
• Company pension scheme
• Annual performance-based bonus
• Life and Income protection insurance
• Tax efficient benefits (cycle to work, give as you earn)
• Additional optional benefits (Dental, critical illness, spouse/partner life assurance)
