Become part of the Team

At PA, we design products for our clients. FPGA devices form an increasingly important part of our designs and we continue to grow our team of FPGA developers. This is a unique opportunity for an FPGA developer whose interests extend beyond HDL.

You will work in multidisciplinary teams, applying your FPGA skills to diverse and often unique design briefs. In doing so, you will gain exposure to a wide range of applications across Consumer, Healthcare, Industrial and Defence and Security sectors, each bringing new challenges and learning opportunities.

This role might suit an individual with a broader electronics or embedded systems background for whom FPGA has emerged as a specialism.

What we're looking for

We are looking for an individual whose skills and track record are aligned with FPGA rather than ASIC designs. In practice, this implies an engineer who is comfortable working close to the hardware platform and working across hardware-FPGA and software-FPGA boundaries.

Our projects often begin with an abstract brief. Part of this role is to take this abstract brief and to produce an elegant, realizable design before moving on to implementation. We look for people who are able to carry out and document this ‘system thinking’ as well as implement designs – all to a high standard.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate strong VHDL skills and a coding style that is sympathetic to the underlying hardware platform. At PA, we are platform-agnostic but work primarily with Intel and Xilinx platforms. A good working knowledge of either of these platforms and their associated toolchain is of benefit, as is familiarity with Modelsim and/or Questa.

Consultancy brings the opportunity to experience new challenges, so we are looking for individuals who will relish this as well as make use of their core skills. Examples might include embedded software, schematic/PCBA design and mathematical modelling.

We expect candidates to have gained a good degree in a relevant subject from a leading university as well as the strong interpersonal skills required for a successful career in consultancy.

A significant proportion of our work is within the defence and security sector so candidates must be willing and able to gain UK security clearance.
