When faced with challenges to solve, you dive in and think creatively to find great solutions to research-based questions, therefore you have a good understanding of a wide range of research tools and topics. This includes but is not limited to understand financial metrics and being comfortable with numbers, you are conversant with being able to dive into a diverse variety of industry research and ideally have some prior experience of researching in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, but importantly you have a flair for customer service.

The mission of A&M’s Insight Centre is to provide our professionals and our client executives with highly relevant, industry specific, actionable, fact-based insights derived through our proprietary benchmark and research studies on a global basis. The group was founded to adhere to one of A&M’s founding principles, “No shooting from the hip”. A&M’s Insight Centre supports client work and business development projects with an ever-growing toolbox of products, including custom benchmarking and research studies and targeted subscriptions and resources. The team considers research both a science and an art, and as such is committed to developing high-quality, unique and insightful deliverables to support stakeholders.

A&M’s Insight Centre is looking for a London-based Senior Research Analyst to join the growing team who will provide a range of research support functions focusing primarily on our Private Equity Performance Improvement and Healthcare & Life Sciences Teams. This role involves working directly with client facing staff to deliver research such as company insights, financial and operational benchmarking data, market research and economic research to support these two teams – as well as more widely across A&M when bandwidth allows. This role requires the keen ability to multi-task in order to deliver a wide range of research requests whilst also being able to help with research product evaluations and train more junior staff on research techniques and best practice.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • A number of years work experience in a similar role
  • Excellent analytical skills and research experience using a wide range of research tools such as Thomson Eikon, Capital IQ or FactSet, Factiva, Global Data, IBISWorld, Statista, APQC
  • Demonstrable financial research, financial analysis, and industry markets/trends knowledge
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of working on (or with teams who support) private equity deals
  • Knowledge attained as a result of researching a range of industries, but particularly some understanding of the various healthcare and pharmaceuticals sectors that make-up the industry

Your responsibilities

You will fulfill a wide range of varied research requests by interacting directly with A&M stakeholders from all divisions and across all levels - from Analysts to Managing Directors. You will engage in the full life-cycle of the request from the scoping phase to delivering the final output. These requests will include, but are not limited to the following specific examples:

  • Conducting financial analysis on a range of companies to understand their financial health, and how they are performing against their peers
  • Providing data on various operational benchmarks, company strategy, and company insights
  • Create and support “watchlists” to help the healthcare team with their business development activities
  • Creating detailed healthcare market insights to track industry trends over time
  • Providing detailed financial and industry insight for “Points of View” documents that are used by the Private Equity Performance Improvement team to deliver content for A&M clients about their current and future market position

In addition, you will:

  • Help to manage the research request pipeline through
  • Collaborate with the team to prioritise, coordinate and manage any research requests that are sent to our third-party research partners
  • Promote the Insight Centre and provide education on how to leverage and engage with the Insight Centre
  • Work collaboratively with counterparts in the global Insight Centre team to drive a “one-firm” approach to research

Desirable skills and experience

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (particular ability with Pivot Tables and charting in Excel, as well as composing well designed PowerPoint presentations)
  • Related work experience in a similar role with a private equity, hedge fund, venture capital, professional services firm or other financial organisation
  • Some knowledge of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries
  • Able to speak other European languages in addition to English
