Software Development Consultant C++ and low level C

Full time/Permanent (Cambridgeshire)

Based at our Technology Centre in Melbourn (Cambridgeshire) we help our client base develop innovative products and services for unmet needs across the Consumer, Networks, FMCG, Medical/Life Science, Transport, Defence and Public sectors.  Our Software and Controls team is made up of low-level developers who love the interface of hardware and software.  Made up of around 20 individuals from programming, computer science, electronics and data backgrounds our Software Consultants are expected to work across a broad range of technology stacks and problem spaces.  If you love variety and fast paced work, then consulting is for you!


A day in the life of a software consultant is highly varied.  You could be meeting clients, attending meetings/scrums/workshops to map out solutions, crunching code or even working on client site with their technical teams to really get under the skin of their needs.  All this is done in a highly flexible and multi-disciplinary environment.

What we're looking for

Ideal candidates with be strong developers in C++ and or C  at the low/embedded level.  They should be natural and innovative problem solvers and have a genuine passion for understanding new technology and its applications. 


More specifically you should have experience with things like:

  • Modern c++ and experience with the STL
  • Embedded C
  • TDD
  • CI and automation
  • Bare metal and/or linux and real time OS
  • Direct working with clients
  • Design direction
  • Python, c, c#
  • Familiarity with object orientation and/or function design patterns
  • Familiarity with software development practices and tools, such as agile development, version control, software testing, continuous integration and virtualisation
  • The versatility and flexibility to apply your skills to new challenges and solve unfamiliar problems
  • A desire to push for continuous improvement and deliver quality software
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, through pairing and independently  
  • Knowledge or experience of a specific area of interest, for example: embedded software, sensors, IoT, cloud, robotics, VR/AR
