Companies, investors and government entities around the world turn to Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) when conventional approaches are not enough to drive change and achieve results. Privately held since its founding in 1983, A&M is a leading global professional services firm that provides advisory, business performance improvement and turnaround management services. With over 4,000 people across four continents, we deliver tangible results for corporates, boards, private equity firms, law firms and government agencies facing complex challenges. Our senior leaders, and their teams, help organizations transform operations, catapult growth and accelerate results through decisive action. Comprised of experienced operators, world-class consultants, former regulators and industry authorities, A&M leverages its restructuring heritage to turn change into a strategic business asset, manage risk and unlock value at every stage of growth.

Through our Corporate Transformation team, A&M offers critical assistance to companies with underperforming assets which are a drain on earnings and cash flow, distracts management, and erodes employee, customer and shareholder confidence. We help clients identify and quantify opportunities to unlock shareholder value by divesting and/or improving under-performing and non-core business units or assets. Working directly with company management, A&M helps stabilise financial and operational performance by developing and implementing comprehensive profitability and working capital improvements. A&M’s involvement reassures creditors that the company is taking important steps to address its problems and maximise its value. Clients call us when they need to implement step-change, sustainable cost reductions that will leave their organizations leaner, stronger and more agile in order to compete in a disrupted environment and fuel future growth. In addition, specific events can trigger the need for an objective perspective of a company’s performance, such as missed earning projections, lacklustre topline growth, performance gaps versus competitors or the industry or, financial report restatements or investigations. Starting with a rapid result assessment, we identify a portfolio of high impact opportunities to improve EBITDA and cash flow across the enterprise, ranging from quick wins to the ‘tough calls’ that deliver transformational results. In these instances, the services of our Transformation team include:

  • Rapid Result Assessment
  • Quantified EBITDA / Cash Improvements
  • Organizational Redesign and Management Architecture
  • Downsizing international business units and operations
  • Interim Management

We pride ourselves on listening to our clients, understanding their business and combining solutions and hands-on implementation to preserve and generate value for our client’s businesses.  Our goal is to improve cash flow and EBITDA and to provide earnings benefits through hands-on involvement in our clients’ operations and transactions.

Our Transformation team has experienced another unprecedented year and therefore, opportunities exist for us to strengthen the team at the Senior Director level in order to provide resources and leverage to a growing and highly experienced senior management team. We are seeking a talented, ambitious, experienced and entrepreneurial transformation practitioner who is interested in developing their career in the much sought after rapid transformation space. Typically, successful appointees in the team will:

  • Possess excellent financial skills, analytical rigour and a demonstrable track record of success
  • Have proven track record in operational restructuring including the optimization of all aspects of a business, ideally gained within an organisation with a manufacturing facility of significant size, scale and complexity
  • Have proven expertise in Turnaround and Restructuring gained in a major advisory firm (the blend of industry and professional services experience is essential for success in this role)
  • Be experienced in Turnaround Management, including business plan development and financial projections development
  • Ability to conduct an initial rapid diagnostic into the company's immediate and future cash needs, product profitability, cost base, major operational issues, market position and options for restructuring
  • Reviewing performance figures and analysing data to develop fact based analysis to examine the root cause of problems
  • Developing and implementing performance improvement solutions to solve under-performance on both cost and revenue lines
  • Robust understanding of accounting and business plan modelling

In addition, the successful candidate will also possess excellent negotiating skills, ideally gained in an operational restructuring environment, whether in the context of commercial / supplier agreements, closure of an entity/divestment of assets, negotiating with banks, or dealing with management teams or trade unions.

A Senior Director will also be able to sell additional work by successfully identifying client needs, facilitating the definition of the role and winning client trust. Ultimately, the successful appointee will be recognized by the client as the lead for value contributed on engagements and therefore build his/her own credible network of contacts and referral sources with clients, professionals and institutions.
