Project Summary

Do you have experience of managing an Application Support Team in the Financial Services industry?

Our client, a multi-national financial services firm, is looking for a Head of Application Support to:

  • carry out the day-to-day management of the Financial Systems Team
  • conduct a review of working practices such ascapability and capacity planning, key challenges, SLAs
  • document key aspects of the role such as governance, dependencieson other teams, hand-offs etc.

This role is all about leading an Application Support Team (20 - 25 FTE) whilst also reviewing its effectiveness and current working practices.

Key Areas of Work

The services you will provide will include:

  • Day-to-day management of the Financial Systems Team - to include: performance management of the team, workload and capacity planning (leave / holiday / sickness), coaching and mentoring the team.
  • Acting as an escalation point for issues.
  • Managing risks.
  • Documenting key aspects of role e.g. meeting schedule, stakeholders / governance, hand off points, dependencies on and to other teams, customers, core challenges to the team (SWOT analysis).
  • Reviewing key documents that define how work get done such as Financial System Service Documents and SLAs.
  • Bringing some transparency to the current workload and working lifecycle of the team - how work comes in, what is in flight and the demands that are being placed on the team.
  • Liaising and collaborating with the Information Systems SLT where required
  • Assessing skills / capability and capacity of the current team.

Mandatory Skills/Experience

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • Application Support Experience:
    • 5+ years experience managing an Application Support team of 20 - 25 FTE in the Financial Services (regulated) sector.
    • previous experience reviewing end-to-end working practices and activities of an application support team.
  • Personal Qualities: confident to challenge and build effective working relationships leading a team and managing stakeholders.
  • Qualifications:degree qualified and/or qualified via a range of project and Programme Methodologies (e.g. MSP, Prince 2, PMP etc.)
