Purpose of the Senior Director role:

Our goal is to continue to create a Lean culture within client organizations. The Senior Director will lead continuous improvement (CI) activities at clients across all levels of plant management to define and drive EMS/MEP including the coordination of stability, process improvement and culture change through CIP workshops and gear projects directly linked to plant level KPI’s to achieve plant goals and objectives. You will be responsible for driving continuous and significant improvements in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and working capital within their value stream. This will be achieved by developing a world class organization and methodically implementing the strategic objectives (a unique combination of strategic planning, strategy deployment, lean management/manufacturing techniques and six sigma tools).

This position’s responsibility includes all aspects of operations improvement, focusing on developing and executing strategies and establishing a vision that leads to operational excellence through application and utilization of world-class lean manufacturing principles.  Everyone loves a good update. As key point of contact during the project's life cycle, our Consulting Senior Director will create a positive experience, maintain project scope, and verify that project deliverables are met; potentially across multiple projects at one time. In addition, a sense of real urgency will be needed to maintain ‘tension’ within the client’s team.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Drive rapid, significant and sustainable improvement in on-time delivery and lead-time while demonstrating a ‘Return On Investment’ (ROI)
  • Develop and execute a manufacturing strategy that supports the division’s overall market-driven business strategy. Specifically, lead expansion of highly successful point of impact manufacturing and delivery models.
  • Lead regular strategy deployment & KPI reviews for the manufacturing team ensuring attainment of results and a sense of urgency with respect to the strategic implementation priorities.
  • Passionately drive continuous improvement culture while implementing the strategic Roadmap to achieve breakthrough performance in, safety, quality, delivery, cost, growth and working capital
  • Ensure key manufacturing metrics and key performance indicator systems are consistently tracking the appropriate measures and driving appropriate response behaviors.
  • Periodically present plans and actual results, as well as strategy deployment and KPI progress. Take aggressive action to drive financial performance in the areas of direct and indirect labor, manufacturing overhead cost, and inventory levels.
  • Partner with Plant Manager to coordinate manufacturing functions with all affected departments.
  • Ensure effective allocation of resources across all areas of the operation to accomplish customer-driven priorities.
  • Oversee new change plan implementations, working with a support team to insure key deliverables, milestones, and timelines are met;
  • Implement and optimize LEAN methodology across multi-region & multi-site production environments
  • Build strong relationships with client peers and act as the day-to-day operational lead for the relationships;
  • Assist operational leadership in shop floor management;
  • Contribute to high-level strategic planning as a member of the Senior Management Team
  • Accountable to deliver process improvements to drive performance improvements, productivity increases, that yield tangible cost savings
  • Lead teams in the development, training, and management of analytical models, metrics, and processes to achieve continual improvement in labour-management performance.
  • Accountable to deliver tangible and quantifiable process and operational improvements that impact the financial results.
  • Ensures appropriate project change management including desired outcomes, accurate scope, clear roles and responsibilities and decision-making. Ensures standard change management protocols are used to support of the project and subsequent re-design.
  • Creates the systems and methods used to drive CI within the supply chain.
  • Regularly reviews operational Lean performance expectations with leadership teams across the organization, providing expectations, performance planning, feedback, training & development, and performance discussions
  • Quantitatively determine and track expected productivity improvement and savings from BPI events, and ties savings to P&L
  • Management training on Lean principles and ‘champions’ training 
    Ensure that manufacturing processes run reliably and efficiently.
  • Provide thought leadership and recommendations for improving workflows, team structures, and system configurations.

Essential Skills & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of driving operational excellence through Lean principles. They will have a strong background in Lean, six sigma, and other CI concepts. They will be an effective team player promoting positive and open communication at all levels within the organization. You will be independent, self-starter that can work to develop and implement strategy created in collaboration with the PM leadership team and the various functional leaders in the business.  Industry wise you will have experience in working with global manufacturing. Specific requirements are as follows:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related field required, depending on the level of suitable experience in appropriate positions;
  • Established operations leadership experience in distribution, warehousing, or manufacturing
  • Must have considerable operations leadership experience with a demonstrated track record of significant performance improvement;
  • Possess extensive technical skills and hands on experience in continuous improvement manufacturing activities
  • Strong application knowledge of LEAN manufacturing techniques and related CI tools
  • Experience in lean culture development and lean tool implementation required.
  • Resourceful, combining strong manufacturing and technical abilities with overall management & leadership acumen.
  • Sets high expectations (driven by metrics and countermeasures) for self and the organization.
  • Experience leading large cross-functional or multi-location projects and timelines
  • Experience leading deployment of a Continuous Improvement methodology (TPM, Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Project Management skills with the ability to motivate, develop people, communicate, listen and perceive
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Autonomous and self-directed.
  • High degree of credibility and integrity.
  • Ability to assume a consulting role with executive management and external executives.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, a win-win mentality.
  • Understanding of Project Management tools including Microsoft Project, Excel and Time Tracking Systems.
  • Must have in-depth experience in, supply chain operations, strategic planning, budgeting, and finance

Desirable:

  • Previous (and relevant) consulting experience combined with the Operational track record is the ideal experience for this position
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or extensive experience using a PMI-based Project Management Methodology/Process Improvement methodology desired.
  • Manufacturing experience in metal fabrication, powder paint, and assembly preferred.
