Department:  Corporate Performance Improvement (CPI)

Blending hands-on industry expertise and strategic thinking, our team of experts work to develop and implement operational performance improvement solutions.  Working either in an advisory capacity or taking the reins in an interim C-Suite role, CPI comprises of a group of truly outstanding senior industry specialists providing corporate clients with innovative solutions for their toughest problems. 

Purpose of the Director, Operations Improvement role:

This position’s responsibility includes all aspects of operations improvement within blue chip organisations, focusing on developing and executing strategies and establishing a vision that leads to operational excellence through application and utilization of world-class lean manufacturing principles.

As a Director, you will aim to create world class operations within our wide and varied range of client organizations.  Leading high-profile transformation projects, you will methodically identify & implement the clients strategic objectives (a unique combination of strategic planning, strategy deployment, lean management/manufacturing techniques and six sigma tools).  You will lead large scale performance improvement projects around Operations & Supply Chain, experience the challenges of Private Equity as well as advise, lead and implement across the corporate sector.  This role will be reporting into a Partner within our Corporate Performance Improvement practice.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Drive rapid, significant and sustainable improvement in on-time delivery and lead-time;
  • Implement and optimize LEAN methodology across multi-region & multi-site production environments;
  • Build strong relationships with client peers and act as the day-to-day operational lead for the relationships;
  • Assist operational leadership in shop floor management;
  • Contribute to high-level strategic planning as a member of the Senior Management Team;
  • Accountable to deliver process improvements to drive performance improvements, productivity increases, that yield tangible cost savings;
  • Accountable to deliver tangible and quantifiable process and operational improvements that impact the financial results;
  • Regularly reviews operational Lean performance expectations with leadership teams across the organization, providing expectations, performance planning, feedback, training & development, and performance discussions;
  • Quantitatively determine and track expected productivity improvement and savings from BPI events, and ties savings to P&L.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of driving operational excellence in world class organisations. They will need to clearly demonstrate ability to assume a senior consulting role working with executive management and external executives. Specific requirements are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related field required, depending on the level of suitable experience in appropriate positions;
  • Established hands-on operations leadership experience with a demonstrated track record of significant performance improvement;
  • Must either have previous consulting experience or have demonstrated ability transferring operational experience into a strategic advisory position within operations improvement;
  • Possess extensive technical skills and hands on experience in continuous improvement manufacturing activities;
  • Good application knowledge of LEAN manufacturing techniques, six sigma & related CI tools;
  • In-depth experience in, supply chain operations, strategic planning, budgeting, and finance;
  • Financial acumen is a must - will need to be able to demonstrate concisely the relationship between Operations Improvement and EBITDA benefits; 
  • Strong understanding of Project Management tools including Microsoft Project, Excel and Time Tracking Systems;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization;
  • High degree of credibility & integrity;
  • Creative problem-solving skills, a win-win mentality;
  • Autonomous and self-directed.

Desirable:

  • Previous (and relevant) consulting experience combined with the Operational track record is the ideal experience for this position;
  • Previous evidence of successfully selling/winning business or at least bid development would be highly desirable;
  • Master’s or MBA degree qualifications preferred;
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or extensive experience using a PMI-based Project Management Methodology/Process Improvement methodology desired;
  • At least some manufacturing experience preferred.
