This Regulatory Advisory role sits within the Financial Industry Advisory Services (FIAS) practice here at Alvarez and Marsal London.  A&M FIAS revolves around three core areas of expertise; Performance Improvement, Bank Restructuring and Regulatory Advisory.  Financial institutions are facing a more and more challenging transformation agenda requiring more disruptive approach regards to cost reduction.

Our Regulatory Advisory Services team helps financial institutions unlock and create value in their business whilst navigating the implications of the changing world of regulation. Our professionals’ ability to evaluate new or complex regulatory issues quickly, ranging from risk, compliance, capital and liquidity and the wide range of conduct issues, allows us to develop effective, practical solutions in a timely and successful manner. The Purpose of the Director, Regulatory Advisory:

This is a unique opportunity to work with former leading UK regulators, most notably from the PRA and FCA. You will contribute to work streams on large programs but also smaller projects, leveraging your financial services knowhow and skill set in analyzing the status quo and developing sound solutions either from an external point of view or in collaborative settings with your client organization.  

As part of the FIAS Team, you will be working closely with Senior Directors and Managing Directors. You will benefit from constant exposure to the senior members of the team and gain ‘on the job’ learning and development, leveraging their substantial experience.

In joining a growing business, you will also have the opportunity to be involved in business development activities, where the team discuss new opportunities, the development of innovative offerings for our market and the drafting of thought leadership papers. You will be actively involved in these discussions and feel an integrated part of the wider FIAS team.


You will be at the heart of delivering regulatory advisory projects within financial institutions, where the regulatory perspective is central to a business-critical judgement. You will be actively involved in developing our business, and be an integrated part of the pan-European FIAS team. Assignments will range from advising on implementing new regulation, and the transformation of systems, processes and policies, through to helping clients remediate adverse regulatory findings or manage intense regulatory scrutiny. We are particularly looking for expertise in the area of financial crime, or other relevant regulatory experience.

To deliver on these responsibilities effectively, you will need to:

  • Be an action-oriented self-starter with strong analytical skills and entrepreneurial flair, in line with the A&M culture and values
  • Be comfortable working independently as well as in a high performing team
  • Have a strong background in the regulation of financial services, and an appetite to expand your knowledge and expertise further
  • Keep constantly on top of regulatory priorities and changes, and advise clients accordingly
  • Interpret regulation and present it in a clear and meaningful way, including how this could impact strategy, revenue streams or wider business issues
  • Be comfortable and credible in working closely with senior stakeholders in the client’s business and with professionals from leading financial institutions.



  • Relevant experience in financial services advisory (ideally from a Big 4 Professional services firm or from the Banking industry itself) with large scale transformation programs, highly exposed to top management;
  • Established experience of the financial services sector is essential, particularly in relation to financial crime or other relevant area. This experience may have been gained in a variety of roles (e.g. in financial institutions or consultancy).
  • Must have had proven hands on experience working closely with or directly within a regulator (e.g. PRA /FCA or an EU equivalent);
  • A high-grade degree qualification from a top tier university;
  • Mix of hard and soft skills, drive and leadership, ability to generate impact, assertiveness;
  • Strong project management capabilities, stakeholder management skills at senior levels;
  • Strong ability to conceptualize, summarize, and provide key messages to clients and/or senior levels;
  • Strong managerial skills, with ability to distribute workload among team members
  • English language skills are essential (both written and spoken) along with excellent writing skills, financial modelling (Excel) and presentation (Powerpoint) skills;
  • Willingness to travel at short notice (mainly within Europe);
  • EU citizenship or right to work in the EU.


  • Knowledge of recent or pending EU regulatory initiatives, e.g. EBA Stress Test, Basel IV, MiFID II, etc.
  • Additional qualification levels (such as MSc or MBA) would be preferred;
  • Additional European languages are highly desirable.
