Role description

The Strategy Consulting practice is looking for individuals with experience in strategy consulting or similarly rigorous strategic execution roles in a leading corporate. In particular, we are seeking to hire experienced professionals to join our growing Private Sector Healthcare and Life Sciences team.

Our practice is widely recognised by our clients for its insight, expertise and the quality of our work.

Our culture is collaborative and supportive of your personal and professional development.

If you are highly motivated and skilled in your field and have a passion for addressing the strategic challenges facing our private healthcare and life sciences and clients, our track record of commercial success and our growth ambitions can provide you with an excellent platform for your career.

Responsibilities

Our Private Sector practice has a strong and growing presence in life sciences and healthcare. Our strong relationships, and the depth and breadth of our skills we bring, mean we have been at the heart of some of the largest and most ambitious developments and programmes undertaken in the sector.

We bring a rigorous, evidence-based analytical capability to help our clients solve pressing and complex issues, to reveal insight and deliver value through pragmatic, actionable recommendations. Our approach is to work collaboratively with our clients to understand the forces that are driving change, identify opportunities and develop solutions across the whole organisation.

The nature of the work we do includes:

  • Developing strategic business models: helping clients determine the optimum business or commercial model to effectively deliver their objectives, e.g., in the context of product launch or competitive market disruption;
  • Capability building: helping our clients configure effectively and develop their ability to deliver operational excellence in specific areas, e.g., commercial, medical affairs;
  • Strategic options analysis and evaluation: working with clients to understand and shape strategic options ahead of key investment decisions;
  • Stimulating innovation: helping clients to identify new ways of working that will stimulate innovation and growth, and lead to better decision-making;
  • Market analysis: traditional evidence-led analysis to identify market development opportunities to support client strategies.

As part of Deloitte's life sciences and healthcare strategy consulting team, you will work closely with outstanding, experienced individuals, both inside Deloitte and from our clients. While most of our work is focussed on addressing specific strategic issues for senior management and decision makers, we always seek to serve our clients holistically. We draw together other parts of Deloitte - from areas as diverse as operations, technology, risk, corporate finance or tax, in order to deliver an unmatched client service capability.

The analytical thinking and understanding of real-world strategy application that you will develop in your engagements will be central to your own personal development. In addition, the industry contacts you will make and the experience of working with the wider Deloitte network across all of our competences and lines of business will prove invaluable to your future career, at Deloitte or elsewhere. We offer a structured career path and invest in continuous development and learning, which matter greatly to us. Our growth over the last decade has been strong and we have ambitious plans for the future: you will find that there is tremendous opportunity for you to develop your career

As a Manager or Senior Manager you would join the life sciences strategy team, which sits within our Private Sector team, and gain a wide variety of skills and experiences, across a range of engagements and clients.

The primary role of a Monitor Deloitte Manager or Senior Manager is to make immediate, direct contributions to enhancing our clients' competitive position and performance in ways that are distinctive, innovative, and sustainable. To do this, they have the following responsibilities as a project manager and leader within the firm:

  • Work closely and collaboratively with client teams to develop hypotheses, gather data, brainstorm strategic options, and make choices about their strategy
  • Manage project teams to address client specific needs by designing and overseeing the appropriate research and analysis to answer the questions set out in the project mandate
  • Synthesize the team's data gathering and analysis into relevant frameworks and insights and and develop strategic recommendations and implications
  • Demonstrate life sciences industry expertise in identifying new approaches and best practices in making strategic recommendations to the client
  • Design and oversee effective communication of team findings and deliverables
  • Collaborate with senior Deloitte and Monitor Deloitte colleagues throughout the client engagement and work closely with third parties, including academics and industry experts as required
  • Develop more junior colleagues into effective consultants through team member role design, productive feedback, mentorship and on-the-job coaching
  • Support business development by leading and contributing to proposals for clients
  • Act as a leader in your local office by supporting formal firm-building initiatives (e.g., recruiting, training) and participating in social / culture-building activities
  • To have a broader perspective of potential issues encountered when managing diverse teams and the strategies to overcome them; have a clear understanding of the firm’s commitment to creating a more inclusive culture

Requirements

At Deloitte, your colleagues and clients will set the bar high. Therefore, we require more than just a good CV showing strong performance and good academic credentials. We are looking for people who enjoy addressing complex problems in an analytical manner, with a proven record for effective delivery in a project environment, and with a keen interest in life sciences and healthcare.

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Experience in a commercial or corporate strategy role in the life sciences and healthcare sector; or experience in strategy consulting, with exposure to life science and healthcare industry
  • Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree from a good university;
  • Flexibility to travel.

We are Consulting

Three core competency areas make up our Consulting service line:

  • Technology
  • Strategy & Operations
  • Human Capital

We exist to solve complex problems

Our consultants are renowned for their straightforward approach to solving some of the world’s largest and most complex business challenges. With a team of over 3,000, each of us is energised by the challenge a seemingly inscrutable problem presents. Our distinctiveness lies in our refusal to accept a problem at face value - we draw on the depth of our shared insight to ask the right questions, and it’s these questions that uncover answers - answers with impact.

We are committed to collaboration

Our role is to unlock potential for growth and innovation. We believe this requires real collaboration ? with our own networks and with our clients. It’s why we commit to truly getting under the skin of our client’s needs, developing a full appreciation for their environment, goals and ambitions. We’re also unafraid to challenge. In so doing, we build long-term and trusted affinities.

We create long-term, sustainable impact

We often work hand-in-hand with our clients to help find the right solution and to help apply that solution. Our aim is to leave behind ambassadors who are equipped to continue the transformation we began. For us, it’s about embedding sustainable change, allowing the impact of our insight to be felt for a long time to come.

We offer a number of different career pathways

We offer three different career pathways at Deloitte, meaning that there are three different routes by which people can progress in Consulting. We provide variety regarding the career options available to you, assisting you to take career steps that fit your skills, talents and aspirations, and providing an environment where those choices can be discussed in meaningful and constructive career conversations.

The Consulting Career Paths are:

Consulting pathway ? pathway based around developing a broad consulting skillset alongside building expertise in a specific domain

Consulting Solutions pathway ? pathway where there is greater focus on building skills and deep expertise in a specific domain. Practitioners have a narrow focus, determined by their SME and type of contribution made

Consulting Services pathway ? pathway for people whose career is built around the delivery of managed services to clients (either internal or external)
