Role Description

Our Public Sector practice has a strong and growing presence in the Defence, Security and Home Affairs (DHSA) Sectors. Our strong relationships, and the depth and breadth of our skills, means we have been at the heart of some of the biggest and most ambitious programmes undertaken in this sector.

The role of a Systems Engineer within Deloitte is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in driving cutting edge innovation, within a dynamic environment, where technology plays a critical and increasingly strategic role in the business.

You will be working primarily on a client site as a member of a wider team consisting of client staff and, potentially, staff from other organisations. The role within our client’s organisations are analogous to that of the role of a Systems Engineer within a Prime Systems Integrator ? defining and managing requirements, providing integration assurance and ensuring the system development meets the user’s needs.

You will not need to be an expert in the technologies that the delivery units use, but an ability to grasp these easily and to ask pertinent questions is desirable.

The dynamics in your team may vary from project to project, but you will be expected to work with Project Managers, Business Analysts and Business Change resources, typically on enterprise wide initiatives where the dynamics of the workforce needs to be altered, and this needs to be supported by changes to, or development of, new systems.

We foster a collaborative culture where talented individuals can produce their best work. We value innovative thinking; diverse insights and we strive to offer an exceptional level of customer service through our expertise and professionalism.

If you are an experienced Systems Engineer with a desire for opportunities you’re unlikely to find elsewhere, and are either already security cleared or willing to be, then we are very keen to hear from you.

Responsibilities

As a Systems Engineer you will be required to work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team across the entire Systems Engineering lifecycle. You will be expected to apply your knowledge of different Systems Engineering methodologies ? e.g. iterative, spiral, agile ? in order to guide the systems development, tailoring these methodologies as required.

You will have experience and expertise in, one or more, of the following areas:

  • Requirements Management ? defining and capturing stakeholder requirements, using requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS), partitioning and allocating requirements to delivery units.
  • Design and Modelling ? architectural design and use of modelling tools such as Enterprise Architect, RSA or MooD. Knowledge of SysML, UML, MoDAF, TOGAF would be desirable.
  • V&V and Assurance ? creation of test strategies, plans and procedures. Providing assurance to stakeholders that systems are being developed in a way that means integration with other systems will be possible, and ensuring that once developed, they meet user needs.

You will be degree qualified in an Engineering, Mathematical, Science or IT Discipline and have a technology background including knowledge of software elements. Familiarity with one or more of the following areas would be desirable:

  • OSI 7 Layer Model
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
  • Database (e.g. HADOOP) and Cloud (e.g. Amazon S3) Technologies
  • Software Languages (e.g. C, C++, Java)
  • Soft Systems Methodology

The work will offer challenges for you to grow and develop your skills within a supportive team environment. You will be expected to use your knowledge and experience to influence and guide others, and also to self-manage and plan your own work. You will be expected to contribute to the shaping and scoping of our Systems Engineering processes and our business and position in the market.
