Role description

The Monitor Deloitte Strategy Consulting practice at Deloitte is seeking to hire experienced professionals to join our growing Defence, National Security and Home Affairs (incl. Justice) team.

Our practice is widely recognised by our clients for its insight, expertise and the quality of our work.

Our culture is collaborative and supportive of your personal and professional development. Our track record of commercial success and our growth ambitions can provide you with an excellent platform for your career. Joining the team will give you opportunities you’re unlikely to find elsewhere.

We are looking for individuals with experience in strategy consulting or similarly rigorous delivery roles in a strategic execution / policy group of a leading corporate or Government organisation in the Defence, Security and Home Affairs sectors.

If you are highly motivated and skilled in your field, are willing to travel (principally within the UK), and hold, or are able to be UK security cleared to SC or DV level, we are keen to hear from you.

The nature of our work

Our Public Sector practice has a strong and growing presence in the Defence, Security and Home Affairs sectors. Our strong relationships, and the depth and breadth of our skills we bring, mean we have been at the heart of some of the largest and most ambitious developments and programmes undertaken in the sector.

We bring a rigorous, evidence-based analytical capability to help our clients solve pressing and complex issues, to reveal insight and deliver value through pragmatic, actionable recommendations.

Our approach is to work collaboratively with our clients in both Government and industry to understand the forces that are driving change, identify opportunities and develop solutions across the whole organisation.

The nature of the work varies but your work is likely to involve the following

- Developing strategic business models: helping clients determine the optimum business or commercial model to more effectively deliver their objectives;

- Strategic options analysis and evaluation: working with clients to understand and shape strategic options ahead of key investment decisions;

- Strategic cost reduction: helping clients determine where, and how, to cut costs whilst continuing to deliver and achieve outcomes;

- Stimulating innovation: helping clients to identify new ways of working that will stimulate innovation and growth, and lead to better policy and decision-making;

- Delivering policy outcomes: helping our clients to support delivery of policy outcomes and enabling programmes;

- Market analysis: traditional evidence-led analysis of sectors to identify market development opportunities to support client strategies.

As part of Deloitte's Defence, Justice & Home Affairs Strategy consulting team, you will work closely with outstanding, experienced individuals, both inside Deloitte and from our clients.

The analytical thinking and understanding of real-world strategy application that you will develop in your engagements will be central to your own personal development. In addition, the industry contacts you will make and the experience of working with the wider Deloitte network across all of our competences and lines of business will prove invaluable to your future career, at Deloitte or elsewhere. Finally, new joiners value the warmth and collaborative nature of our working culture.

While most of our work is focused on addressing specific strategic issues for senior management and decision makers, we always seek to serve our clients holistically. We draw together other parts of Deloitte - from areas as diverse as operations, technology, risk, corporate finance or tax, - in order to deliver an unmatched client service capability.

As a Consultant or Senior Consultant you would join the DSHA (Defence, Security and Home Affairs) Strategy team, which sits within our Public Sector team, and seek to gain a wide variety of skills and experiences, across a range of engagements and clients.

We offer a structured career path and invest in continuous development and learning, which matter greatly to us. Our growth over the last decade has been strong and we have ambitious plans for the future: you will find that there is no lack of opportunity for you to develop your career, wherever you choose to take it.

As a Consultant or Senior Consultant your responsibilities will include:

- Generating analysis and insight: executing rigorous and insightful analysis to build an evidence base to support strategy development and change;

- Tools, skills and frameworks: developing an understanding of effective tools, skills and frameworks that can be brought to bear on new client problems, and shared as best practice within the team;

- Team management: managing and support junior resources in order to ensure successful project delivery;

- Relationship management: Working closely with clients and third parties (e.g. academics) to develop strong professional relationships;

- Liaising with other internal teams (e.g. Technology, Enterprise Risk Services, Data Analytics) to ensure the effective application of the subject matter expertise available, and a seamless client experience;

- Continuous Learning: proactively developing your own skills, seeking feedback, building knowledge, and sharing your insight with colleagues;

- Supporting the management of the practice and successful business development.

At Deloitte, your colleagues and clients will set the bar high. Therefore, we require more than just a good CV showing strong performance and good academic credentials. We are looking for people who enjoy addressing complex problems in an analytical manner, a proven record for effective delivery in a project environment, and with a keen interest in the Defence, Security and Home Affairs sectors.

To qualify for the role you must have:

- Two year’s + experience in a strategy or policy formulation / delivery role in relevant sectors;

- Strong undergraduate degree from a good university;

- Eligible for, or holds, UK security clearance at SC or DV level;

- Flexibility to travel.

Additional desirable attributes include:

- Strategy and policy development experience;

- Operational and delivery sector experience;

- Any relevant awards, additional qualifications, memberships to relevant societies;

- Holds UK DV security clearance.
