Role description

Technology is an exciting and thriving competency within our Consulting Service Line. We have a diverse team with around 1000 people working on challenging engagements across a wide portfolio of clients, and operating from many offices around the UK. Our breadth and depth of expertise enables us to work with FTSE 100 clients to help define, shape and successfully deliver some of their most complex technology projects. Migration is a core offering within our technology competency, and our team’s cross-industry experience helps trusted clients to successfully migrate significant numbers of applications between infrastructure platforms, offices, data centres or managed services. Engagements vary in size and scale; from the initial migration business case to migration strategy and scoping, to full-blown end to end multi-year projects incorporating the full migration lifecycle - scoping and initiation, process and schedule design, execution and decommissioning.

We provide the rigorous approach required to deliver a successful migration and our proven methods and tools assist our clients overcome challenges including; how to make a migration efficient and ‘factory-like’ whilst containing risk; understanding how latency impacts application architecture; the commercial considerations of changing technology platform how to manage engagement with the business, and articulating and then realising the benefits of migration to name but a few.

Responsibilities

You will focus on providing expert advice and assisting with the delivery of client engagements, as well as internal practice development activities. You will be using technical and business skills in your delivery role to:

  • Deliver expert migration related advice to our clients in areas that include:
    • Engaging with the business to understand the business case for migration and gain support
    • Scoping and sizing the migration programme
    • Coordinating technical discovery and developing the migration schedule at a level appropriate to the scale and duration of the migration programme
    • Project managing the development of the detailed technical migration methods and the execution of the application migration activities
    • Planning and coordinating the final decommissioning activities to return the value to the client
  • Understand the technology, the vendors and industry in which our clients operate
  • Bridge the gap between IT and the business, articulating complex technology issues to a business audience
  • Coordinate the development of infrastructure low level designs
  • Review and advise clients on vendor migration and hosting technology
  • Produce and present reports, business cases and other client deliverables
  • Support proposal development and the continued growth of the business through contributing to the wider development of the practice (e.g. supporting the development of propositions, training, marketing, communications and recruitment activities)

For manager grade, you must have a:

  • broader perspective of potential issues encountered when managing diverse teams and the strategies to overcome them; have a clear understanding of the firm’s commitment to creating a more inclusive culture

Requirements

To qualify for the role you must be able to demonstrate skills and experience in the following:

  • Understanding in one or more of the following technology areas:
    • System integration
    • Data centre infrastructure
    • Cloud (private, public and hybrid)
    • Private and public data networks
  • Understanding of the application migration lifecycle (e.g. scoping, process & schedule design, execution and decommissioning)
  • Understanding of the procurement lifecycle, requirements gathering and evaluation techniques
  • Shaping and delivering technology-enabled change programmes
  • Detailed analysis, specification and management of business and technology requirements
  • Analysis, review and definition of solution architectures for technology programmes
  • Experience of options analysis and supporting technical decision-making across complex technology landscape
  • A good graduate degree (1st or Upper Second) from a reputable university
  • Commitment to travel to client locations and the right to live and work in the UK

Additional desirable experience includes:

  • Familiarity with Technical Migration methods such as virtualisation and data transfer using industry-recognised technologies
  • Post-graduate experience ? either consulting or in one or more of the following industries: Financial Services, Public Sector (Central and /or Local and Regional Government, healthcare and education), Consumer Goods, Retail, Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Energy and Utilities, Telecoms, Media, Technology
