Role Focus

  • To develop and maintain a portfolio of clients, by providing quality consulting advice and ongoing service
  • To ensure that revenue from this portfolio is profitable and to expand business lines and service delivery where appropriate
  • To manage and develop strong client relationships
  • To work pro-actively with internal teams to deliver client expectations in line with agreed client account plans

Role Responsibilities:

  • Identify business opportunities from own client portfolio
  • Provide a service compliant with all procedures and Mercer Code of Professional Conduct and the FCA
  • Participate in appropriate internal forums
  • Maintain required industry and technical knowledge
  • Work with support team assigned to ensure the delivery of services to each client in line with Mercer standards
  • Compliance with Mercer and EH&B systems
  • Manage client projects to successful conclusion
  • Compliance with sales process and Miller Heiman tools
  • Where a Key Account is owned by a consultant, the consultant must adhere to all the protocols and goals as set out for the Key Accounts team


  • Retain and develop profitable client portfolio to include new clients/service lines
  • Build relationships with key decision makers
  • Take overall responsibility for the delivery to the client of the agreed services
  • Consult with client to agree and document needs and objectives and ensure delivery of these objectives
  • Hold periodic review meetings with client
  • Client action planning in conjunction with client team
  • Manage insurer meetings with clients
  • Ensure all clients have compliant engagement documentation, in line with agreed process
  • Where a consultant owns a Key Accounts client, this client must be developed and dealt with in line with protocols set out by the Key Accounts team


  • Adhere to Mercer billing standards
  • Agree and monitor client fee and service specifications to ensure continued profitability
  • Own personal and client financial target for a portfolio of clients
  • Manage WIP & Debt


  • Act as role model with integrity and professionalism
  • Network with peers internally and externally
  • Maintain technical knowledges to the required standard
  • Work with client team to deliver a profitable seamless service
  • Recognise success within the client team
  • Network with peer groups internally and externally

  • Financial and Commercial acumen (including fee negotiation skills)
