Job Purpose:
Serve as a member of the Mercer Legal Department, working alongside the Retirement Administration (RA) business to manage potential disputes and the Errors and Omissions programme for RA matters. This is a claims handling role and you will manage a dedicated caseload of matters arising out of RA in the UK market, as well as support and provide guidance for a team of Professional Champions, who manage low-value matters.

Role accountabilities and performance measures:

  • Support and provide advice and guidance for a team of Professional Champions
  • Review all new E&Os for the business and allocate to relevant Professional Champion or lawyer
  • Actively manage own caseload of E&Os with guidance from in-house lawyers, ensuring that investigation and resolution of the matters progress in a timely manner
  • Assist with the negotiation of settlement of E&Os in accordance Mercer’s internal requirements and approval process
  • Maintain accurate records of all E&Os and assist with end of quarter reviews
  • Assist with knowhow and template development for the Professional Champions and the RA business
  • Instruct outside counsel as required and manage costs effectively
  • Effectively prioritise work and manage time by understanding competing priorities and make appropriate judgements regarding relative importance
  • Escalate key issues for decision or information using appropriate judgement as to when to do so
  • Manage expectations well
  • Deliver clear solutions to both internal and external clients
  • Maintain up-to-date general legal knowledge to ensure compliance with relevant policies and legislation and provide advice
  • Maintain accurate case records in the Department’s case management system
  • Communicates regularly with internal business colleagues regarding projected timeframe for project completion
  • A team player; offers to help colleagues and share work
  • Take on projects important to the department or the internal client and manage these effectively and to completion
  • Know the company and its business
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Relevant paralegal, claims handling or disputes management experience in a law firm, financial services, insurer or other professional services firm
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
Technical Knowledge:
  • Dispute resolution and understanding of ombudsman and litigation
  • Claims handling
  • Excel and other Office programs
