Investment Analyst

Working as part of a team supporting consultants in all aspects of Mercer Investments’ work, you will be the main contact (internally and externally) on a number of smaller clients and the lead support on larger ones.  You will also play a key role in the development of less experienced analysts and will be studying or already qualified in actuarial or CFA professional qualification.

Main duties:

  • Provide support to lead consultant acting as a project manager
  • Attend, participate in and present at client meetings
  • Manage client budgets
  • Support consultants with new business pitches in order to increase revenue and breadth of client base
  • Produce reports containing complex investment advice
  • Make recommendations to consultant on appropriate investment strategies and structures for clients, engaging with specialist teams where appropriate
  • Peer review basic reports created by more junior analysts to ensure a high level of accuracy
  • Liaise with Investments’ specialist teams and clients  to ensure that any changes to investment managers are managed effectively 
  • Support analysts with manager selection exercises, checking for inconsistencies and ensuring the client’s needs are being addressed
  • Keep clients informed of major developments within the industry, including governance issues and changes at investment management firms
  • Deal with queries received from clients, investment managers, third parties and other Mercer business lines
  • Participate and contribute actively in manager/specialist  research process. 
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of a number of fund managers  and demonstrate a good knowledge of investment products

Qualifications

Skills required for this role include:

  • Strong intellect with exceptional examination track record
  • Previous experience within an investment or retirement consulting background would be advantageous
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Studying towards the actuarial or CFA qualification (or recently completed)
  • Strong numerical reasoning, analytical skills and ability to work through tasks in a logical manner
  • High proficiency in Excel and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
  • Good technical investment skills
  • Self-motivation and an ability to work independently in a small but high performing team
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, manage multiple priorities and work in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment, ensuring standards and deadlines are met and keeping others informed and up-to-date
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build strong working relationships with peers, colleagues and other Mercer businesses.
  • Ability to understand the link between data, client needs and its application to the “bigger picture
