Mercer and Marsh have appointed Tony Wood as Partner and head of their joint Mercer Marsh Employee Health and Benefits business in the UK. Wood, who joins from healthcare firm Bupa, replaces John Anderson, who has moved to lead Mercer’s Health business in Canada.
Tony Wood has more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development and product management experience in wealth management, superannuation/pensions and life. Prior to joining Mercer Marsh, he worked for BUPA since 2008, holding numerous sales roles in Australia and most recently in the UK. In his last role he was Sales Director for the company’s UK Health Funding business. Prior to that, he worked for among others Australian insurance firm MBF and Australian wealth management specialist AMP. Wood has an MBA and Diploma of Superannuation Management (Dip SM), and is a Fellow of the Association of Superannuation funds of Australia (FASFA).
At Mercer Marsh – an independent joint firm launched in 2012 to provide integrated HR consulting (Mercer) and brokerage (Marsh) services – Wood will be responsible for driving the growth of the business, and take responsibility for all areas of the firm, including financial performance, business development activity, and people management. He will in addition be part of the UK Leadership Team.
“As head of Mercer’s EH&B business, Tony will drive the growth of our Health business in the UK. We are delighted that he is joining Mercer at a time of great change and huge opportunity in the UK market. Increased life expectancy and longer working lives are pushing healthcare up the corporate agenda. Companies are looking for help structuring their benefits to create a healthier workforce and keep medical costs down. With over 20 years of relevant experience in the sector, Tony is perfectly placed to ensure that Mercer delivers what companies need,” says Fiona Dunsire, since December 2012 Mercer’s CEO in the UK.
