AbsolutData Research and Analytics, a data analytics firm headquartered in San Francisco, has added former Strategy& CEO Shumeet Banerji to its corporate advisory board. In his role, Banerji will provide strategic counsel to AbsolutData and its clients.
After graduating from Delhi University in the 1980’s Shumeet Banerji moved to the United States, where he completed a PhD at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He initially worked a few years for the marketing faculty of University of Chicago, yet he quickly found out that he had a passion for consulting. In 1992, the year that Rajat Gupta – another famous Indian in the consulting industry – was appointed CEO of McKinsey & Company, Banerji decided to join Booz Allen Hamilton. “Booz was my first real job, where I had to be disciplined and show up on time" he said a few years ago in an interview with an Indian newspaper.
Shumeet Banerji had a dream run at Booz Allen Hamilton. In the late 1990s he co-founded and co-led the Indian practice of the firm and later he served as the Managing Director of Booz Allen’s European practice. When Booz Allen Hamilton decided to split in 2008 into a public sector firm aimed at the US market (Booz Allen) and international private sector firm (Booz & Company) Banerji was appointed global CEO of Booz & Company. In februari 2012, after completing his four year term, he was replaced by Cesare Mainardi, who still serves as the Chief Executive of Strategy&, the new name of the former Booz & Company.
AbsolutData was founded by two Indians in 2000. The company specialises in Big Data, high-end business analytics, predictive modelling, reporting and data management services. It currently employs nearly 500 professionals across offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, London, Singapore, Dubai and Gurgaon. In August 2012, following a investment of $20 million by private equity firm Fidelity, the company announced ambitious growth targets. As a strategic advisor in the board Banerji will lead the global expansion targets of the BigData specialist and where needed be involved with activities for large clients.
"Shumeet's deep knowledge and global expertise will be a major asset as we continue to expand our organisation across the globe to meet the growing demand for advanced and Big Data analytics," says Anil Kaul, CEO of AbsolutData.
