Knowles first joined HSBC in its Commercial Banking unit in 2008, where he was Corporate Finance Manager working predominantly in and around M&A deals. Prior to HSBC, Knowles worked at Grant Thornton as a Corporate Finance Executive, a role he held for two years. Knowles started his consultancy career at KPMG where he became a Senior Auditor over his three years with the firm. Knowles holds a Bachelor degree in Accounting & Business Information Systems from Portsmouth Business School at the University of Portsmouth.
Ben Potts started his professional services career through a training placement at AgustaWestland in 2010. After completing his Bachelor in Business Studies from the University of Plymouth in 2011, Potts joined PwC. Over a period of three years, he worked his way up to Senior Associate before being picked up by BDO this year.
The two new hires join BDO’s corporate finance team in Southampton – Knowles takes on the role of Senior Manager, while Potts take on the role of Executive. The two are expected to strengthen the firm’s M&A deal activity, which has seen 25 deals worth £1 billion in the past 12 months.
Knowles says: “Knowledge of the international banking system makes a real difference to those clients wishing to raise funds; not just in a transactional environment but also in exploiting expansion opportunities. It's great to be back in accountancy practice.”
Potts remarks that: “I will be bringing my experience of a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, software and marine to the team. I'm very excited to be joining BDO at a time when activity levels are so high.”
