De gay-friendly is annually put together by Stonewall, a foundation supporting 'gender equality'. The index is compiled based on a survey among HR employees and anonymous staff feedback surveys.
Multinational Accenture won the award for the strength and scale (200 participants) of its internal lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender networks. The fact that the networks receive executive sponsorship, led by a board member, also received praise from the jury. Lastly, the consulting firm has created and deployed diversity training throughout the organization, which includes the stimulation of gay-friendly behavior.
Top 10 gay-friendly employers:
2. Gentoo (Housing Corporation)
3. Co-operative group (retailer)
4. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust
5. Home Office (government institution)
6. Ernst & Young
9. Simmons & Simmons
10. Metropolitan (Housing Corporation)
The British 'gay-friendly' list is dominated by organizations and institutions that are active in the public sector. The media and sport sector scored poorly. "Media and sport still have a long way to go in embracing gay-friendly policies" says Stonewall in a press message.
