Job Profile

The fundamental principle of integrating all the components of the railway into a single system is the cornerstone of our business, whether it is for a heavy rail, metro or light rail project. We operate throughout the UK and internationally. From our staff resources we provide clients with a total capability for the complete engineering, management and execution of railway projects through the complete project cycle. We undertake all types and sizes of project whether it is an isolated inspection and report or a major multi-disciplinary project such as the West Coast Route Modernisation

You will work as a member of the railway operations team encompassing the whole range of railway operation services for passenger, freight and mixed operations on both existing and greenfield railways. This includes strategic railway operations design and advice, capacity analysis, timetable development, operations modelling, rail performance analysis, service planning, railways control design and analysis and operating processes, procedures and rules.

We undertake work associated with feasibility and design of all elements of railway schemes in the UK and worldwide in collaboration with teams in other Mott MacDonald offices. The team also provides a design review resource for the promoters of schemes once the design and build contractors start developing their proposed designs.

A portion of our commissions are for operations support for operators and promoters during upgrades and negotiations during changes of concessions.

Job Description
As a rail operations expert with experience of strategic railway operations and, timetable planning and capacity analysis you will be involved in a wide range of projects both within the UK and internationally for both private and public organisations including:

The development of operational plans for new passenger/freight railways within the UK and supporting our international projects.
Strategic input into the infrastructure development plans for key UK projects.
Rail operator franchise advice including timetabling and capacity analysis.

Candidate Specification

Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:

You will be an operator with extensive experience in design, planning or operation of heavy rail systems including knowledge and experience that will include some of the following

Timetable development
Capacity analysis
Rail system modelling using proprietary software packages
Operational concept development for either passenger or freight railways
Operational procedure (‘rule book’) development
Traincrew deployment and control manning analysis
Railway performance modelling and analysis

Essential competencies / skills:
Railway operational management and planning experience
